- Back is dark with a dorsal and adipose fin; it does not carry brook-style vermiculations or blue-haloed red side spots.

- Splake (brook × lake trout hybrid)
- Splake tails are intermediate and spotting can mix both parents. Do not force the hybrid into either char record.
