Spotted bass have a more horizontal / blotched stripe and rows of spots on the lower side, plus a tongue tooth patch. They are not bronze-barred like smallmouth.
Rock bass
Rock bass are deeper-bodied sunfish with red eyes and rows of dark spots on the sides, not a Micropterus profile.
